ABIGAIL ROONEY

Memories and nostalgia have been an integral part of my practice. This series is based from found photography from the 1950s. The photographs were taken by my grandfather, depicting my grandmother in various sceneries. The candid and authentic qualities of the photographs are the main influence of this series, however the paintings themselves are not traditional portraits, they are painted reproductions of the unique artefacts. The visible blemishes and discolouration of the slides being a vital feature of the paintings.
