My work explores how a shadow can stir both emotion and response to everyday life. I portray this by creating works that the only function should the viewer watch the short films, surround themselves in the darkness and let nothing else enter the space. Each scene is created from card cut out of life-like figures, only sections move but combined with the lighting and sounds they create a reality of life. The life we have missed during the covid epidemic but will soon regain.
My aesthetic practice is a combination of minimalism with the philosophy of how the human senses connect through their own interpretation. There are no words spoken, there is no script only visual stimulation and sounds.
My interest in animation, movement in shadow, and film production reflect my artist's interests. Filmmakers Lotte Reiniger, who was the first to create silhouettes televised film and William Kentridge, with his precisely placed card pieces placed to create a women’s face.
My work continues in such a way however I have adapted my own technique of using shadows in animation. It is both direct, meaningful, stirs emotion and evokes human thoughts.
