In my degree show, I decided to create a lot of vessels containing my deformed face. My intention is to make plates, vases, bowls, etc out of latex, candle wax, and plaster. They will be made in the same size as household utensils. The only thing that distinguishes my dishes, apart from the faces included in them, will be how they are made, as they will have a wonky shape. For many years I have been interested in masks, faces and the emotions they express. Many people today wear a so-called 'mask' to hide the pain they really feel behind their smile. As I plan on starting my Masters in Art Therapy next year, I thought it would be a good idea to include how difficult it is for some to really show the emotions they really feel. Many people of my generation struggle with depression and anxiety, but unfortunately not many of them have the courage to talk to someone about their problems and struggle with their difficulties locked in their room. The faces used in this project were created at a time when I was going through a difficult period for me, so these masks are deformed and quite unusual looking faces. Since people suffering from depression and anxiety are often called 'broken' vessels that are made imperfectly and wonky.
